Operator Responsibilities
An operators responsibilities start from the issue of the operator licence, with maintenance intervals being set according to the type of operation the vehicles will be subjected to.
First-use inspections are essential for operators who lease, hire or borrow vehicles including trailers. Operators must ensure that checks are made regularly of items which affect roadworthiness.
Where drivers are concerned, they must be given clear, written instructions about their responsibilities, with all driver defect reports which record any faults being kept for a minimum of 15 months.
Independent Inspections
In addition to safety inspections, freestanding inspection reports can be produced which provide the operator with the means of determining not only the roadworthiness of individual vehicles in service but also the overall effectiveness of their vehicle maintenance system and provider, this enabling the instigation of any changes that might be necessary.
